Totty Ellwood Aris is a practised and established IB contributor, having worked in IB World Schools in Malaysia, Bangladesh, Tanzania, and most recently Malta, as Head of the Verdala International School.

Ms Ellwood Aris’s journey with the IB started when she took the IB Diploma at UWC Atlantic, followed by a BA at Oxford Brookes University in the UK, PGCE at Westminster College, Oxford, and a further Masters of Education at Oxford Brookes. She is currently undertaking a part-time Doctorate of Education at the University of Bath, with a particular interest in how international schools navigate the complexities and aspirations of international mindedness.

She has had opportunity to live the IB through many roles across the globe as Diploma Programme (DP) Coordinator, Middle Years Programme (MYP) Coordinator and Head of the Primary Years Programme (PYP). She has been an IB Examiner for German and participated in three whole-school IB Evaluations, giving her an excellent understanding of the IB’s standards and expectations. During her tenure at VIS, Malta she fostered the implementation of the the IB Career-related Programme, MYP and PYP.

Ms Ellwood Aris is an advocate of IB’s curricular journey as her own three children have completed an IB education from PYP to DP. She is highly dedicated to DEJI policy and practice. Her passion for holistic education presents itself in her support for service learning and belief that every child’s learning journey should be driven by their sense of belonging and meaningful experiences.

As Chair of the Board’s Education Committee, Ms Ellwood Aris is keen to give voice to all four IB programmes, and to ensure that the IB Learner Profile remains the pillar that underpins the Board’s strategic conversations.
