Students manage their community service projects

Through their IB community service project, the eighth-graders of the Middle School of Kennebunks, Maine, US, discovered not only the challenges but also the rewards of selfless acts.

“I think it’s important for all students to understand about giving something back to the community. It’s a way of putting what they’re learning in school into action,” says Principal Jeff Rodman. “I think something like this really empowers students to know they can make a difference.”

Ranging from contribution to the Malala Fund through bake sales and crowdfunding to teaching an underprivileged child to ski, the community service projects taught the middle schoolers many valuable lessons.
