The International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme (CP) has been a transformative journey for our students at Scottish High. The CP gives students meaningful, hands-on exposure to the working world by combining academic rigour with career-focused learning. It aligns seamlessly with the IB mission of nurturing inquiring, knowledgeable, compassionate individuals prepared to make a positive difference.

Our career-related studies (CRS), offered in partnership with the World Academy of Career Programmes (WACP), have been thoughtfully chosen to reflect student interest and industry demand. Courses like artificial intelligence and business administration have provided deep, practical insights into the professional world. These experiences have helped our students gain both subject knowledge and relevant skills for future careers.

One CP parent, Dr. Saini, shares, “I can sit down with my child and discuss the intricacies of a business, yet in the past, I really couldn’t imagine having an in-depth chat with a 16-year-old about these complicated things.”

Learning beyond the classroom: projects and industry exposure

The CP encourages students to extend learning beyond textbooks. Students engage with real businesses, work on live projects, and solve actual problems. These experiences help them connect theory to practice while developing essential life skills.

HR leadership interviews

Students conducted structured interviews with human resources professionals, including Mr. K. S. Bhullar, the HR advisor to the chairman of the GMR Group, a Global Infrastructure Conglomerate.

“HR isn’t just paperwork,” reflects CP student Ranvijay Singh Saini. “Speaking with Mr. Bhullar helped me understand how companies build inclusive workplace cultures across global contexts.”

Through this project, students developed research and interview skills while learning how HR functions impact organizational growth and culture.

Marketing plan development

Working with local startups, students designed fundamental marketing strategies based on research and business goals.

“Creating a plan for an actual business helped me understand professional decision-making,” says CP student Ridhima Tandon, who led one of the teams.

This project offered insight into strategic thinking, branding, and customer engagement.

Customer feedback analysis

In collaboration with a local café and co-working space, students analysed customer feedback using statistical tools and presented actionable recommendations.

“I applied statistical tools to solve real business problems,” says CP student Shania Uberoi. “Turning data into insights gave me a new appreciation for analytics.”

The exercise strengthened their digital literacy, research, and business communication skills.

Financial analysis and accounting

Students explored accounting concepts, budgeting practices, and regulatory frameworks through case studies and simulations.

“These figures represent people’s dreams—not just textbook examples,” reflects CP student Deveesh.

Students learned to view financial data in the context of real businesses and their impact on people’s lives.

Royal Craft legacy project (Jaipur)

Students travelled to Jaipur to work with local artisans as part of a social entrepreneurship project. They helped market handcrafted goods and sold them at a school event to raise funds for nonprofit organizations.

“It was meaningful to support a community and give back,” says CP student Charvi Nagpal, who led the initiative. “I also learned how business and impact can go hand in hand.”

This project combined creativity, empathy, and entrepreneurial thinking.

Reliance Brands visit

During a visit to the Reliance Brands office, students explored how the company collaborates with international labels and uses digital tools like AI in marketing and operations.

“It was exciting to see how industry uses the skills we learn in class,” shares CP student Rohan Awasthi. “The insights on brand partnerships and tech-driven strategy were truly eye-opening.”

Students walked away with a clearer understanding of how innovation shapes today's businesses.

Comprehensive skills training

Students in the CP gain more than subject knowledge. The programme fosters critical workplace competencies essential in any career path.

  • Critical thinking: Through case studies and problem solving, students are encouraged to explore multiple perspectives and deepen their analytical abilities.
  • Communication: working with professionals, presenting projects, and collaborating in teams has helped students become confident communicators.
  • Flexibility: project-based learning across diverse industries has prepared students to handle change, adapt to challenges, and think independently.
  • Digital competency: students have developed proficiency in business software, data analysis tools, and online communication platforms.

“I chose CP with WACP because I was certain about where I was headed in life,” shares Tisha Saxena, CP student. “Business has always interested me, and this programme has helped me acquire real experience in communication, leadership, and teamwork.”

Looking back and moving forward

As CP student Sabeer Bhatia puts it, “I have been enjoying my experience in the CP. It has been amazing. One thing I value most is that it is hands-on learning rather than only theoretical knowledge. It emphasizes industry experience, where we meet and interact with professionals. These experiences have made learning so much more engaging and meaningful.”

These reflections capture the spirit of our CP journey. At Scottish High, we believe the CP is not just about preparing students for careers. It is about nurturing thoughtful, capable, compassionate individuals ready to thrive in life after the IB.
