The University of Notre Dame in Australia is introducing the IB Certificate of Teaching and Learning – giving their students the prospect of broad future career choices in IB World Schools.
Starting in 2016, the university will offer the qualification to undergraduate teaching students. Liz McKenna, Senior Lecturer at Notre Dame's School of Education, says the accreditation is a significant step for the university. She explains:
"This is a wonderful opportunity for our undergraduates to be part of the international world of education focusing on constructivist approaches to teaching and learning and the importance of being internationally minded."
Students who complete the certificate will have a wide range of international career opportunities. "They will be able to go to any school in the world for professional experience," McKenna adds.
Notre Dame student Caitlin Wallace harbours ambitions of going to teach in Berlin. She said: "With the qualification you could just walk in and try and get a job, that's just not possible with a local-only degree.”
