In an article for the Independent, a former top official in the UK Department of Education has called for an "International Baccalaureate-style approach".
The former official, David Bell, was interviewed by Richard Garner for The Independent newspaper in the UK.
The article, which looks at Mr Bell's views on the UK education system, discusses reform of A-levels: the UK's standard qualification for students aged 16-18.
According to the article, the UK government's A-level reforms have given the country "an ‘out-of-date’ system after five years of ‘permanent revolution’ in schools."
What was the reform needed, it goes on to say, "was an International Baccalaureate-style approach with more subject breadth and depth."
