Following extensive coverage in international media in the past few months, the success of the Rainier Beach High School’s IB programme is now highlighted by the esteemed US news channel PBS.
Four years ago, nearly half of the students at Rainier Beach High School in Seattle failed to graduate, and test scores were low. But taking on the IB curriculum brought a positive change to the school culture. Today, 80 per cent of the students graduate on time.
For Rainier Beach IB Diploma Programme student Ifrah Abshir, the curriculum has sparked an interest in the world beyond her high school. She said to PBS: “A big part of me wants to become an activist, and protest for human rights.”
