People from across the International Baccalaureate® (IB) community in Ecuador joined the country’s President Correa at Colegio Nacional Experimental María Angélica Idrobo in Quito, on 17 September to honor 56 newly authorized IB World Schools.

The total number of IB World Schools in Ecuador is now 120 – 38 are private, and 82 are state/public. By 2017, a further 418 public sector Ecuadorian schools will be on track to become authorized.

Until July 2014, more than 5,700 teachers were trained at 233 workshops by over 200 workshop

leaders from the IB Educator Network (IBEN) to implement the IB’s curriculum framework in the new

schools. Equipping young people with the skills and competencies necessary to continue on with higher studies or to enter into the workforce is a goal that the IB and Ecuador both share.

Drew Deutsch, Regional Director of IB Americas said:

“We’re honored that Ecuador holds the IB’s programmes in such high regard and that President Correa, the Minister of Education and others have selected the IB as a significant education reform measure to improve the quality of education for all Ecuadorians. Not only do we recognize the achievement of the schools as they become authorized, we also congratulate their outstanding and dedicated educators who made this achievement possible. I’d like to thank every teacher, administrator and workshop leader who has contributed to bringing an IB education to students across Ecuador. I am confident that the hard work that it took to reach this point will be worth it.”
